  • Bleeding or spotting in between periods
  • Bleeding or spotting during or after intercourse
  • Heavy bleeding during periods
  • Periods lasting longer than 7-8 days

What are Common Causes of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding?

Common causes can be related to ovulation, or lack of ovulation.  Some women who don’t regularly ovulate can experience irregular bleeding.  In addition, polyps or fibroids can affect bleeding and are often easily treatable with a simple procedure called a hysteroscopy.

How is Abnormal Uterine Bleeding Treated?

If you experience abnormal uterine bleeding, it is important to schedule an appointment to discuss what tests and treatment are best for you.  Often, some bloodwork and an ultrasound in the office give us important information to help treat the bleeding problem.  In addition, a simple office hysteroscopy can be performed with an endometrial biopsy which to evaluate the cavity of the uterus and assess the presence of a polyp or fibroid as well of any abnormal cells in the lining of the uterus.
