Sex Selection/Family Balancing
What is Sex Selection?
Gender/sex selection is a technique used to select the gender of the embryo prior to implantation. This technology is often used for family balancing, where couples who already have children of one gender and a child of the other gender is desired.
How does Sex Selection work?
Gender Selection/Family Balancing involves using In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). In the IVF process, a woman’s eggs are retrieved and fertilized in our lab, and are then cryopreserved and sent to a specialized lab for PGS (pre-implantation genetic screening). This technique screens embryos for the correct number of chromosomes to lower miscarriage rates and improve the chance of a live birth. In addition, the screening can determine the sex of each embryo as well. The last step of the process is to have the embryo of the desired gender transferred into the uterus to establish pregnancy.
