About Donor Insemination
Donor Insemination is a procedure in which a woman who wishes to conceive is inseminated with sperm donated by a man who is not her partner. This is a common treatment option for same-sex female couples who are ready to grow their family via IUI. Oral or injectable medications or over-the-counter ovulation predicator kits are used to help accurately time insemination. Your provider will help craft a specific care plan unique to your needs.
There are also cases where a male partner has low sperm counts or no sperm, has had a previous vasectomy, or carries a genetic disorder that he does not want transmitted to his children. Donor insemination can also be used for single women who wish to conceive without a partner.

Donor Insemination Cycles
Donor Insemination can be used in both natural cycles (where no medication is used) or in fertility treatment cycles (with either oral or injectable hormonal medications). In natural cycles, ovulation is monitored with at-home ovulation predictor kits. In fertility treatment cycles, follicular growth and ovulation is monitored by fertility specialists and insemination is carefully timed. Appropriate consents and counseling are required prior to moving forward with donor insemination, and our fertility experts are here to guide you every step of the way.
Donor Sperm
Donor sperm is obtained from a reputable sperm bank, where donors are carefully screened for infectious diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, and Trichomonas. Basic characteristics of the donors are provided by the banks and include ethnic origin, blood type, height, weight, eye, hair and skin color, years of college, and profession. Other detailed information may be available for some donors, but the donor’s identity remains anonymous. Once selected, the shipment is coordinated with our andrology team, where it is then safely stored. South Jersey Fertility Center works most frequently with the following banks:
