Seeking the help of a fertility specialist is the most important milestone on your journey to parenthood.
Deciding to begin your journey with a fertility specialist can be an emotional first step, which is why the team at South Jersey Fertility Center approaches your first appointment with compassion and sensitivity. Below, we share when you should consider seeking help and why – primarily based on the female’s age and how long a couple has been trying to conceive. Couples with preexisting fertility conditions, however, can and should speak with a fertility specialist at any time.
Women under age 35
If you are under 35 years old and have been unsuccessfully trying to conceive for one year or more, it is recommended that you see a fertility specialist for help. Typically, couples who are actively trying to get pregnant will conceive within the first three months, with 90% conceiving within the first year – which is why an evaluation is encouraged to determine if there are underlying factors preventing pregnancy.
Women over age 35
If you are over the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for over six months without success, it is recommended that you see a fertility expert. Women are born with all of the eggs they will ever have and as women age, fertility rates naturally decline. Egg quality and quantity can pose a challenge for women as time goes on, which is why diagnosing fertility barriers and seeking treatment is recommended.
If you have preexisting conditions, seeking fertility treatment can help.
No matter your age, diagnosis, or past outcomes, we’re here to help you reach your goal.
