An Open Letter to Single Women Yearning to Become a Mom: Randee’s Story

IVF Support

Written by Randee Rosenfeld.

With today being our transfer Anniversary, I nervously thought I’d share my story. Life is not always a fairytale like you read or see on TV. There was no Prince Charming that swept me off my feet.  I hadn’t found the “right” frog to become my “Prince” and “live happily ever after with.”  I didn’t want to “settle” with the wrong person just because I needed the title of “wife”…even if I had been planning my perfect wedding since I was a little kid.

I was 38, soon approaching 40, and I wasn’t getting any younger. With no “Mr. Wonderful” in sight,  I decided I never wanted any regrets, and would have to take matters into my own hands. A little over 3 years ago, I, along with two friends by my side, walked into South Jersey Fertility Center for my first consultation. I had no clue what to expect, but knew I was about to start on an emotional roller coaster of a journey.

I couldn’t have done it without the support of some amazing friends and of course my mom, Harriet Rosenfeld Zbarsky, who helped me choose the right donor.  I went through 6 failed IUIs, a fibroid surgery, a fake IVF round to find the correct transfer timing, a global pandemic that shut down the world  (including all fertility treatments), all before finally having a successful IVF transfer with 1 viable embryo. At 6:54pm on March 18, 2021, after 39 weeks and one day, Reagan made his appearance via planned then not planned, very eventful C-Section.

As I write this, I’m in bed feeding Reagan and listening to my dog Kodak snore next to me. I remember being nervous to announce I was pregnant because it wasn’t the “traditional” story. I didn’t know what others would think, but I hope my story can inspire at least one person to follow their dreams and put their happiness above others negative judgement or old fashion opinions.

I’m thankful to have the most amazing support.  My mom (Bubbles to Reagan) is my rock. She’s behind my decisions 99% of the time and has been by my side through this entire process.

Mom, I love you and can’t thank you enough. To my friends (way too many to list), you are more than just friends, you are family, my village, my sanity, and most importantly the best Aunts and Uncles to Reagan. He is already so loved and spoiled.

I love that I have the title “Aunt” to so many, but unbelievably happy that I now have Reagan to call me “Mommy”.  Maybe one day I will find my “Mr. Right” or my “special toad”, but for now I have everything I’ve always wanted…my little family. Reagan, Kodak, and I along with Bubbles, have begun our adventure in a new home with no regrets!
