When Medicine Becomes Personal: Dr. Lauren Weissmann Shares Her IVF Journey and Advice for Other Same-Sex Couples
Dr. Weissmann’s Journey with IVF
Finding a fertility specialist who you can trust and who can empathize with what you’re going through, is so incredibly important. For Dr. Lauren Weissmann, this connection with her patients comes second nature, as she has gone through the IVF journey herself.
In early 2020, Dr. Weissmann and her wife Salwa decided to undergo In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Deciding on which treatment option to pursue was an easy decision for the couple, as Dr. Weissmann considered her age and the national high success rates for IVF. Dr. Weissmann had her first embryo transfer in June 2020. In March 2021, she and her partner welcomed their baby girl Molly into the world with the help and thoughtful care of her colleague Dr. Stephen Sawin, Medical Director at South Jersey Fertility Center.
Dr. Weissmann shares, “Going through IVF at South Jersey Fertility Center has really helped me to connect with my patients on a different level. I can say, oh yes I know that shot may be painful, but you can make it through this.”
Fertility Options for Same-Sex Couples
